GitHub's certification program has grown from a single Foundations exam into six credentials. GH-900 GitHub Foundations is the entry point, followed by four role exams: GH-100 GitHub Administration, GH-200 GitHub Actions, GH-300 GitHub Copilot, and GH-500 GitHub Advanced Security. A sixth, GitHub Certified: Agentic AI Developer (GH-600), entered beta in May 2026. GH-300 is the fastest-growing of the set, driven by teams standardizing on Copilot and wanting proof their developers can use it well.

Most candidates start with GH-900 unless they already work in GitHub daily, then pick the role exam that matches their job: Actions for CI/CD engineers, Administration for org owners, Advanced Security for AppSec work, Copilot for developers on AI-assisted teams. Exams cost about 99 USD in most regions and run 100 minutes. Since July 1, 2025 you register through Microsoft Learn and sit the exam with Pearson VUE, online proctored or at a test center (the old examregistration.github.com portal now redirects to learn.github.com). Foundations does not expire; the role certifications renew on a two-year cycle under Microsoft's credential policy.

If you are choosing between exams in late 2026, the Copilot track is where the hiring signal is strongest.
